          Suzan graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Lake Superior State University.  Her experience includes positions at Duke University Medical Center and Mission Hospital's and Clinics in the areas; of Cancer Nursing, Solid Tumor Research Nursing, Hematology Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Home Health, PICC/IV/Infusion Nursing, General Surgery, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery, and most recently Dermatology and Physiatry.  She spent nearly a decade serving on an Institutional Ethics Committee during her career.  She graduated from University of Colorado-Denver with a Master's of Science in Nursing with emphasis in aging theories and anti-aging care  with AANP Adult-Geriatrics Nurse Practitioner certification. She is an invited member of Alpha Mu Gamma and Signa Theta Tau International Honor Societies, a member of the American Nursing Association, American Heart Association, and Oncology Nursing Society. She stays up to date with medical and nursing current best practice through Epocrates, UpToDate, NIH CAM research, Helio (oncologic treatment resource), Signa Theta Tau nursing research disemination as well as many other resources.   "I'm passionate about patient care and improving lives by individualized plan implementation one patient at a time.  Patient requests to incorporate complimentary alternative medicine prompted me to broaden my education and scope of practice.  I now have the tools to educate patients on the impact those measures have on health and incorporate evidenced based non-medicinal therapies into their individualized care plans while minimizing poly-pharmacy. That is precisely why I needed to move into advanced clinical practice".  She is also a certified laser specialist and incorporates this skill into post-treatment recovery and helping people feel vibrant in advancing years and after significant illness.  Her plan for continuing education and training includes participation in professional memberships and incorporating tattoo arts along with lasers into care of post-mastectomy patients.

          Suzan brings very unique gifts that equip her to care for clients in ways other providers cannot.  Special interests are endocrinology,dermatology, cancer prevention and health promotion, menopause, mind-body practices for pain and stress reduction and restorative nutrition.  She recently partnered with a whole foods nutritionist (RDN) to write a cookbook.  She is also a classically trained portrait painter who has studied beauty extensively.  This study was not focused on external beauty, but instead, the aesthetic intelligence built into every human being as well as inner beauty that radiates outward.  "My classical training taught me the importance of balance, the beauty of imperfection and flexibility.  These lessons enhance how I engage in my profession." 

 

          Suzan is all-to-familiar with cancer and sudden death of the young and those advanced in years. "There is very little loss I have not experienced on a personal level.  I don't fully understand every clients unique experience, but I can enter that place with an open ear." She can provide that extra something when assisting clients to do hope as well as grief work.  "I am not afraid to pray with patients when invited and I'm a trained Christian Transformation Prayer and Meditation Coach.  Any invitation to pray with clients is welcome.  I can look back and say, "I've encountered miraculous. I will never remove hope from anyone.  I will promote faith in those who choose it. Everyone I come in contact with deserves loving-care."

          Suzan enjoys traveling and dining domestically and internationally.  She enjoys cooking colorful meals for guests and family. She is an art museum and performing arts enthusiast. She has 4 adult children and 4 grandchildren "I have many blessings, but an encouraging husband who enables me to engage fully in my work is one of my most valuable blessings."
